Latest TSA Nonsense

This is astounding.  The TSA will no longer allow you to fly if you decline to show ID.  Previously, travelers who did not wish to produce their papers before boarding a flight were subjected to increased scrutiny, but were allowed to fly.  If you lost your ID, but would otherwise be willing to show your ID, you still get to fly, but are subjected to the extra screening.

This keeps us safe in two ways:

  1. Terrorists do not ever show their IDs.
  2. Terrorists do not know how to say “I lost my ID during my trip.”

Oh, wait, neither of those things is true.  I guess forcing people to show ID doesn’t keep us safe at all.

As usual, Bruce Schneier tears this to shreds.
